The Election Commission (EC) will appoint more than 500 new officials before the upcoming national elections. Besides, the organization will also promote from fifth to sixth and ninth to sixth grade. On Wednesday (November 16), Election Commissioner Md. Anishur Rahman informed this information.
He said that in today’s meeting there was a discussion about post creation and promotion. Later will go to public administration and finance department. 522 posts of Assistant Upazila Election Officers have been created. Some will be direct recruits and most will be promoted. Earlier there were no recruitment rules for these. We have sent it to the Ministry of Public Administration. From there it will go to the Committee of Secretaries. If they approve, we will request the PSC for the appointment.
In response to another question, he said, many are working in the same position for 16-17 years. Some of them have become district election officers, some have become regional election officers. So some posts have been created, some posts have been asked to be promoted. They have been demanding for a long time. He had raised the matter in the commission during the previous commission. They were left for a new commission. There is a committee on administrative reforms under my chairmanship, there have been discussions.
The Election Commissioner said that some districts have District Election Officers and some districts have Senior District Election Officers. Whether the district is small or big, the district is the district. District Commissioner does not have two grades. The post is Deputy Secretary. Here small district was considered as big district. Officers of Grade VI in small districts and Grade V in large districts have been kept as District and Senior District Election Officers. Now, if transferred, it has to be paid at the same level in the district. This is a problem.
He said, 45 districts do not have fifth grade. So I have asked for the creation of fifth grade posts in those districts. As with other ministries. It will not cost much to the government. Because, the salary of many has increased more and more.
On the other hand, in the upazila, we have said that out of 522, 230 ‘A’ class upazilas have been asked to make sixth grade and now there are ninth grade officers. In this case too, there is no financial cost. Here too, many have increased their salaries to more than this. It will be similar with other ministries.
There are many vacancies in the upazila. The officer of the neighboring upazila has been given the responsibility. It cannot work properly. Therefore, those posts will also be filled through PSC, he said.
