BNP leader killed, protests in Sylhet

BNP leader AP Kamal was stabbed to death in Ambarkhana Barabazar area of Sylhet city. The miscreants stabbed him and fled while he was sitting in his car around 8:30 pm on Sunday. AP Kamal Sylhet District BNP Health and Planning Secretary and former GS of Sylhet Law College. Police and BNP leaders could not say for sure who killed him. A resident of Subidbazar area of the city, Kamal’s village home is in Alinagar village of Sadar upazila.
But recently, Kamal had trouble with BCL workers. District BNP General Secretary Advocate Emran Ahmad Chowdhury said that the dispute may have led to his murder. He said that Kamal and local businessmen had trouble in Ambarkhana a few days ago.
Meanwhile, BNP leaders and activists staged a protest at the Osmani Medical College Hospital area around 10:30 pm to protest the murder. From there, a procession went to Rikabibazar intersection and met the rally. At the same time another procession came out from Rikabibazar to Ambarkhana. At that time they protested by setting fire on the road.
OC Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir of SMP’s Airport Police Station said that the reason for the murder was not known. Police are trying to identify the killers. BNP leader Kamal parked his private car in Ambarkhana Bara Bazar area of Electric Supply Road and was sitting in the driver’s seat. He recently submitted nomination papers for the post of general secretary in the district BNP council.
Abdul Ahad Khan Jamal, convener of Sylhet District Volunteer Party, said that if the killers are not arrested and prosecuted, we will start a movement.
