‘The government can change the decision of the executive order on Khaleda Zia if it wants’

Law Minister Anisul Haque said, we want to go back to the constitution of 72. When and how this will be done realistically will be decided by the party and the government. He said this at the end of a seminar titled ‘Re-visiting the Historical Journey of the Institute of Law and International Affairs’ on the occasion of National Constitution Day at Dhanmondi in the capital on Saturday.

Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs (BILIA) organized the seminar. Billia Chairman Constitution Drafting Committee member veteran lawyer barrister M Amir-ul Islam presided over the seminar, Supreme Court retired judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, former ambassador Dr. Mohammad Zamir, freedom fighter Rokeya Kabir, DU professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Curzon, barrister Tanya Amir etc. Billia Director Prof. Dr. presented the concept paper in the seminar. Anisul Haque said in the seminar, we have to wait more to bring back state religion and neutrality in the constitution. The current government is working to go back to the constitution of 72 made by Bangabandhu. He also said that propaganda is being planted in people’s minds. This propaganda should be removed from people’s minds.

The law minister said, through the fifteenth amendment, we have got back many things of the original constitution of 1972. Tried to get some back through the 16th amendment. There have been some hiccups and it is now pending. We are definitely thinking about it. That’s because we want to get back the original constitution of 72.

‘Khaleda Zia will be sent to jail if BNP exaggerates’ – Law Minister Anisul Haque said in response to the questions of the journalists regarding the recent statement given by the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister has clearly said in his speech, ‘If they exaggerate, then a decision will be taken. And if you don’t, then you will remain as you are now.’ The government can change the decision of its executive order at any time.

Khaleda Zia, the chairperson of BNP who was convicted in the corruption case, is currently ill at her residence on the executive orders of the government. He is receiving treatment there. His sentence was suspended on two conditions. Barrister Amir-ul Islam said that due to Bangabandhu’s efficient leadership, the constitution was made possible at the earliest. Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik said that the constitution of Bangladesh is one of the best constitutions in the world. But by killing Bangabandhu, murderer Ziaur Rahman destroyed this constitution too.
