A woman named Rabeya Begum (48) has been accused of wrong treatment at the Prime Hospital in Maijdi, the district town of Noakhali. The deceased’s middle son Md. Rajan Hossain made this allegation around noon on Sunday (November 16).
Earlier, the woman died in the operation theater of the Prime Hospital around 12:15 am on Saturday night. The deceased Rabeya is the wife of Shamsul Huda of Sardar Bari in Sheikhpur village of Chandraganj union of Lakshmipur district.
The deceased’s son Rajan Hossain complained that two months ago, her mother slipped in the courtyard of the house and broke her left wrist. Immediately, a doctor in Chandraganj union put a plaster on her broken hand. After two months, when the plaster was removed and an X-ray was taken, it was found that the broken bone had not healed. Then, an agreement was made with Dr. Faridul Islam of Maijdi Prime Hospital to surgically implant a plate in the mother’s broken left hand for 75 thousand taka.
As per the agreement, the mother was taken to the hospital on Saturday evening. The same day, at around 11:30 pm, anesthetist Golam Haider took her to the operation theater and put her in a coma. Later, she did not regain consciousness. Rajan further alleged that an hour after putting her in a coma, she was taken to the ICU.
Later, at around 3:30 am, the hospital authorities announced that my mother had died. In fact, my mother died shortly after she was put in a coma. On Sunday morning, the hospital informed us that there would be no cost for the operation, ICU, and ambulance, and you can take the body. The hospital told me that this happened because my mother had high blood pressure. They also said that she had low blood pressure, which is why this happened.

On Sunday afternoon, around 1:15 pm, my elder brother and uncle came to the hospital and took the body after making a compromise.
I still don’t know what the compromise was. When contacted, Maijdi Prime Hospital Senior AGM Shipon Shah denied the allegations of wrongful death and said that the patient’s condition deteriorated after the operation and he was taken to the ICU. The doctor told the patient’s relatives to file a case if they felt the need to do so. Noakhali Civil Surgeon Dr. Mariam Simi said that no one has filed any complaint in this incident.
