A youth was killed in Indian Border Security Force (BSF) firing. BSF says he is a cow smuggler. His identity is not yet known. However, it is suspected that he is a citizen of Bangladesh.
The incident took place in Murikhawa area of Chathat area of Phansidewa block under Siliguri sub-district council of India on Thursday night.
A cow also died in the shooting along with the youth. Besides, another cow was injured. BSF officials have already visited the spot.
Due to this incident, the locals protested and the police of Phansidewa police station reached the spot. A large number of police have been deployed in the area.
According to local sources, villagers heard gunshots early on Thursday. It was later learned that a young man from India was on his way to Bangladesh with three cows when the BSF opened fire. The young man died on the spot.
BSF claims that a Desi One Sat gun was found with the youth. A BSF jawan patrolling the border opened fire to save his life.
Local Trinamool leader and panchayat member Shamsul Haque said, Police and BSF are not allowing us to enter the village. The boy is probably from Murikhawa or a village bordering Bangladesh. We were scared by the sound of gunshots in the night.
