During the 45th anniversary procession of BNP in Gaibandha, BNP leaders and activists chased each other and clashed with the police. At least 20 people were injured. Police arrested three people in this incident.

The clash took place on Friday (September 1) afternoon when a procession left the district BNP office and crossed the Shaheed Minar. Eyewitnesses said that BNP leaders and activists took out a procession from the district office on the occasion of the foundation anniversary. The procession was stopped by the police when it crossed the Shaheed Minar junction and headed towards DB Road. At that time, when the procession moved forward past the police barrier, there was a chase between the two sides. To bring the situation under control, the police lathicharged, rubber bullets and tearshells at the BNP leaders and activists. At least 20 BNP leaders and activists including the police were injured. Later, district BNP advisor Alamgir Sadulya Dudu, BNP office peon Alam and a person named Liton from Gorasthan Mor were arrested by the police.

General secretary of Gaibandha district BNP Mahmudunnabi Titul said, our activists did not attack the police. Police fired tearshells and rubber bullets at our peaceful rally and injured 20-22 activists. Three people were arrested.

Gaibandha Additional Superintendent of Police Dhruv Jyoti Gop refused to comment on the matter.
