A Russian long-range supersonic bomber was shot down by Ukraine.

In this attack of the Ukrainian drone entering inside Russia, the Russian warplane in the air base was destroyed.

In a video circulating on social media, it can be seen that the plane that was destroyed in the attack was a Tupolev Tu-22 model supersonic bomber.

Several pictures of this incident have been spread on social media. These images show a Tupolev Tu-22 on fire at Soltsi-2 airfield south of St. Petersburg.

Basically the aircrafts that can fly faster than sound are called supersonic aircrafts. The Tupolev Tu-22 was the first supersonic aircraft of the Soviet Union. This aircraft built in 1962 did not show much success as expected.

However, in the ongoing war, the Russian military has been using these planes in airstrikes on Ukrainian cities.

Moscow said one plane was “damaged” by the drone strike. However, Ukraine has not commented on this.

Sources say the downed Russian Tu-22 bomber can fly at twice the speed of sound and is widely used by Russia to attack Ukrainian cities.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Defense of Moscow said in a statement that the attack was carried out by a “copter-type UAV” at around 10 am Moscow time on Saturday. In the statement, they referred to the site of the attack as “a military air base in the Novgorod region”.

Originally, the Soltsi-2 airfield was located there. The ministry said, ‘One aircraft was damaged in the attack; There were no casualties as a result of the terrorist activities.
