Intern doctors at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital have started a strike to protest the attack and harassment over the death of a patient. They have refrained from attending work since Tuesday morning. Patients are suffering as a result. The patient’s relatives complained that they were not getting the desired services.

Director of the hospital, Brigadier General Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, said that treatment is being given from mid-level in various wards, “Discussions are going on with the doctors regarding the strike. We are hopeful that there will be a solution soon. He claimed that there is no disruption in the service.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the four people who were arrested during the attack on the hospital around 2 am on Monday. On behalf of the hospital, Ward Master Roshan Habib filed the case in SMP’s Kotwali police station as a plaintiff.

The accused in the case are Abdul Malik, Sabel Ahmad, Jubel Ahmad and Jewel Ahmad of Kuchai area of South Surmar.

A patient who was admitted to Osmani Hospital in Kuchai area of South Surma died on Monday afternoon in Ward No. 35. At that time, the patient’s relatives complained of negligence in treatment. They vandalized some medical equipment including glass, chairs, tables, doors and EGC machines of the ward. On receiving the information, the police brought the situation under control and arrested the four persons.
