In Gopaya village of Habiganj Sadar Upazila, tailor trader Shahana Begum and her family were not spared from Rahmat Ali despite paying a total of 5 lakhs of interest by taking 2 lakhs on interest. Rehmat Ali forcibly locked the shops and residences and chased Shahana away. Shahana Begum became disoriented with 3 children, including a college-going daughter. Shahana Begum filed a written complaint with Habiganj Superintendent of Police.

In the complaint, she mentioned that her husband Md. Farid Mia brought Tk 2 lakh on interest from Rahmat Ali, son of deceased Gahar Ali of the same village 4-5 years ago. Farid Mia deposited 4 checks and house deed with Rahmat Ali as collateral. In 4-5 years, 4-5 lakhs of interest of 2 lakhs has been paid. But Rahmat Ali’s claim of 2 lakh rupees did not end. Gopaya Noorani is running a cloth shop named Ma Tailors on rent from Maqsood Ali’s shop in Jame Masjid Bazar. Rahmat Ali scolded Shahana’s husband often for interest money. Rehmat Ali locked Shahana’s shop and residence on July 4 after her husband went abroad on June 28. In Nirupa, she lived with her two children, a college student and a madrasa student, in Abdullah Mia’s house in the same village on rent. When the matter of locking became known in the area, the locks of the shops and residences were opened on July 30 through local mediators. Later, on August 12, Rahmat Ali and his forces locked shops and residences and threatened them in various ways for interest. Due to which Shahana has become Nirupa. He is living an inhumane life with all his family. He said that he would commit suicide for Rahmat Ali any time. He informed the Superintendent of Police about the matter yesterday Sunday. In this regard, he wants the immediate intervention of the administration.
