On the night of August 5, Rumana Ahmed came into discussion with a ‘mysterious’ Facebook status. On that day, the former captain wrote on her verified Facebook page, ‘No more cricket…’ which means, ‘No more cricket.’ The women’s department of BCB called Rumana to the cricket board today to find out the explanation of that status. Given such a status, Rumana was also reminded of the Cricket Board’s code of conduct.

Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Head of BCB Women’s Department and Selector Sajjad Ahmed sat in a meeting with Rumana there. When Shafiul was asked about this after the meeting, he said, “He will play.” He wants to play. The problem is actually internal.

Rumana, a leg-spinning all-rounder who played 134 international matches for Bangladesh, was not in the Bangladesh women’s squad for the last three series. Women’s team cricketers have been called for a fitness camp for the upcoming Asian Games. Rumana is not among the 26 people who have been called there. It is known that after receiving this news, Rumana was disappointed and gave the status, which was an indication of quitting cricket.

However, the head of BCB’s women’s department says differently, ‘We also have a plan, who will be taken where or who will be in the plan in the future. This is decided by the selectors. Not everything will be to their liking. Now we have multiple cricketers in one position. Whatever they need, we will do whatever we need to do. The rest is up to them.

Given such a status, Rumana was also reminded of the Cricket Board’s code of conduct. Shafiul said, “These are matters of the board’s code of conduct.” We remind them of these occasionally. We try to control things as lightly as possible. They are not warned, they are reminded, that not everything can be shared on social media. They are contracted cricketers.

Rumana last played for the Bangladesh women’s team in February this year, against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup. He lost his place in the XI against South Africa in the same tournament. After the World Cup, Rumana was also left out of the Bangladesh team’s tour to Sri Lanka. Then Manjurul Islam, selector of the women’s team, said that Rumana was not excluded, she was given rest. But Rumana took it as an exception.

Rumana was also absent from Bangladesh’s latest series against the India women’s team at home last month. However, Salma Khatun was brought back, while another veteran Jahanara Alam was left out. According to team management sources, Rumana has been dropped due to fitness and fielding reasons.
