Camp activist Sohag sentenced to life imprisonment in student abduction case

The court has sentenced camp activist Sohag Mia to life imprisonment for kidnapping a student in Nabiganj. Along with that, a fine of 10,000 taka, in default of payment, another 6 months imprisonment without work was given.
Judge District and Sessions Judge SM Nasim Reza of learned Women and Child Torture Tribunal-3 gave this verdict last Monday afternoon. Special PP Md. Mustafa Mia handled the case for the state.
Md. Fazlu Miah, the prosecutor of the court, said that Najma, daughter of Sahabuddin of Kanaipur village of Nabiganj upazila, was abducted by Shibirkarmi Sohag Miah (25), son of Riaz Uddin of the same village, on her way to school on the morning of July 24, 2016. When Sahabuddin filed a case in this incident, the court ordered the Nabiganj police station to be arrested. Najma was rescued after 1 week after registering the case and gave her custody to the family and Sohag was arrested. Investigating officer KM Russell handed over the charge sheet on December 13 of the same year after a lengthy investigation. Later the accused got bail. After the evidence, the learned judge gave this order last Monday. At the time of the verdict, the accused was absconding.
Peshkar also said that the warrant will be sent to the concerned police station. The plaintiff expressed satisfaction with the verdict.
