A youth has been arrested while trying to enter West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence with weapons.
On Friday, the police arrested Mamata Banerjee from the street of her Kalighat residence in Kolkata.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel said that Mamata was at home at the time of the incident. He was getting ready to attend the ‘Martyrs’ Day’ rally near Dharmatala. This happened a few hours before leaving home.
He also said that the name of the person wearing black coat and tie is Sheikh Noor Alam. He was driving around Harish Chatterjee Street in a car with a police sticker. Firearms, knives and several ID cards of various organizations and drugs were recovered from him.
Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal said, ‘The man wanted to meet the Chief Minister. He was trying to enter Harish Chatterjee Street when our officer stopped him. We are trying to find out what his real motive was. He is speaking incoherently. Sometimes they say he comes from Anandpur, sometimes they say he lives in West Medinipur.’
He is being interrogated by Kolkata Police Special Task Force (STF), Special Branch personnel and local police station officials at Kalighat police station. His black car has been impounded.
