BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, today the entire nation is united for change of government. We will not go to elections under this government. There is no alternative way to bring people’s representatives to power except to demand the caretaker through a one-party movement.

He said these things at a seminar held at Hotel Six Seasons in Gulshan of the capital on Wednesday afternoon.

The BNP Secretary General said that in 2006, when she was the leader of the opposition, the current Prime Minister had given a speech – ‘The caretaker government must implement the provisions of the Constitution to continue’. Speaking of reforms, he spoke of that caretaker government. But why is there so much objection to giving a supervisor today?

He said, however, no matter how many objections the government raises, all political parties have agreed on the same demand – we want the resignation of the government. It wants to hand over power to a neutral caretaker government through the dissolution of this parliament. As a responsible political party, it is our responsibility to highlight the importance of stewardship to the people.

Mirza Fakhrul said, today this matter has become clear – Awami League is conspiring to abolish the caretaker government in a very planned way to establish Bakshal. So our only goal now is to force the government through the movement and go to the elections to meet the demands of the caretaker. Because, it is not possible to go to the power of people’s representatives without elections.

The seminar was chaired by BNP Secretary General and was also attended by member of the party’s standing committee, Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Selima Rahman, Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, A Z M Zahid, Joint Secretary General Moazzem Hossain Alal, Advisor to Chairperson Ahmed Azam Khan.

Also present were Kalyan Party Chairman Major General (retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Civil Unity Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Democracy Manch leader Hasnat Qayyum, Saiful Haque, Ganaforum leader Professor Abu Saeed, Dhaka University Professor Nurul Haque Bepari and other constitutional experts. Representatives of IRI, European Union and United States were also present.

The guests presented their views on the caretaker government in the seminar. They said that BNP’s demand for a caretaker government is reasonable. Because the government is now the biggest obstacle in the way of democracy. If Sheikh Hasina cannot be made to resign through a one-party movement, there will be no solution.
