Charmonai Pir’s 8-point demand including elections under the national government
Dhaka/
The emir of the Islamic movement and Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim has announced that he will not participate in any election under the party government.
He highlighted this position of the party in a press conference at the party office in Paltan of the capital on Sunday.
At the same time, he demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal in connection with the attack on Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, the party’s mayoral candidate in the Barisal City Corporation election last June 12. Apart from this, Charmonai Pir demanded 8 points including elections under the national government.
Although rumors of reconciliation between the Islamic Movement and the Awami League have been heard, the Amir of the party said that the people of the country will not accept the election by retaining the Parliament.
Charmonai Pir demanded to dissolve the parliament and form a national government before the end of the term. In addition to this, Rezaul Karim proposed to the Prime Minister to transfer power to the national government.
Among his other proposals, none of the current cabinet can remain in the national government. And those who will be in the national government, they will not be able to be candidates in the election. The national government will organize the next parliamentary elections within 90 days. But if it is not possible for any reason, then within the next three months, the power must be transferred to the elected representatives.
BNP and like-minded parties have demanded elections under a non-partisan caretaker government, but Charmonai’s Pir has demanded a national government comprising all registered parties. He said that the losers have raised questions about the elections held under the caretaker government in the past days. All will have participation in the national government. So no one can raise questions.
When asked who will be in the national government, Rezaul Karim said, after discussion with political parties, intellectuals and civil society agitating for the establishment of voting rights, the structure will be revealed. From the press conference, it was announced to hold an exchange meeting on June 24.
Even though BNP and like-minded parties boycotted it, the Islamic movement participated in all the local government elections. However, due to the attack on the party candidate in the Barisal city election, the party announced boycotting the Rajshahi and Sylhet city elections to be held on June 21.
Rezaul Karim said that his party will not participate in any election under the party government.
Meanwhile, in response to the attack on Faizul Karim in the Barisal city election, the CEC said, “Has he died?” Protesting his statement, Charmonai Peer said that the CEC has been trivialized and mocked like an inconsiderate person. If he does not resign voluntarily, we want his removal through constitutional process. The Amir of the Islamic Movement has announced a march towards the Election Commission on June 21 with this demand.
Syed Mosaddeq Billah Al Madani, Ashraf Ali Akon, Mahbubur Rahman, Nurul Huda Faizi, Secretary General Yunus Ahmad and others were present in the press conference.
