Students want to ban politics in Chittagong College
The coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement have made a five-point demand, including banning student politics in Chittagong College.
They made these demands at a press conference organized on the current affairs of the college in front of the administration building on Friday (September 27) afternoon.
Ibn Hossain Ziad—coordinator of the Chittagong College branch of the anti-discrimination student movement, presented a written statement at the press conference. He started his speech by remembering the martyrs of the July revolution including Chittagong College student Shaheed Wasim who died in the movement. Said, the sacrifice of martyrs gives strength to our commitment and their ideal is our guide. Today we can live in a safe and democratic Bangladesh because of the sacrifice of the martyrs. Their memories inspire our struggle. The rights of students will be guaranteed in this Bangladesh, soaked in the blood of martyrs, there will be no discrimination.
Ibn Hossain Ziyad stated that they have always been united under the policy adopted to stop student politics and said, “We are struggling for a safe, neutral and politics-free campus, where a fair environment of education will be maintained and the quality of education will be improved – this is our main goal.
We have been striving for a neutral, safe and politicized campus for a long time. The students collectively declared the Chittagong college campus free of politics. But in recent times the activities of various student organizations on campus are threatening our rights and security, which we find totally unacceptable.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, there were incidents of fighting between student organizations in the college campus, the leader of the anti-discrimination student movement said, adding that such activities are a direct violation of the rules of maintaining a political-free environment. Which we removed and arranged to paint various graffiti. Since then, various student organizations have been trying to carry out active activities in name, anonymously, which is very alarming for us. On Thursday, two sides of the college students clashed outside the campus. The anti-discrimination student movement wants to ban politics so that nothing like this happens. Ibn Hussain Ziyad said, repeated attempts to introduce student politics on the campus is an injustice to ordinary students. We, the common students of Chittagong College, have repeatedly witnessed the poisonous sting of the dirty reality of student politics. Due to this toxic politics, many of our classmates have lost their precious time, some lost their dream campus, some even lost their lives. Our chest still bursts with pain, when we remember those terrible days of the barbaric attack of the Chhatra League. The burning wound of that cruel blow has not yet dried.
Later Ibn Husayn Ziyad announced five demands. The demands are that the college authority officially declares an end to student politics, naming a special facility of the college after Shaheed Wasim and role of the college administration in rehabilitating the families, speedily completing the reform program, who are involved in the misdeeds of the fallen dictatorship and directly or indirectly as torturers of the July Revolution. involved, expelling them permanently and taking disciplinary action against the teachers, providing appropriate compensation to the victimized students, bearing the medical expenses of the injured students affected by the July Revolution by the college administration.
Among others at the press conference were Hamim Abdullah Matiur, Sakibul Islam Shiblu, Lubaba, Umama, Tanveer.
