Exchange meeting on mango held in Chapainawabganj

Last Saturday (August 26, 2023) at 4 pm Regional Horticulture Research Center, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Chapainawabganj held an exchange meeting with the scientists of Wageningen University, Netherlands on the best practices for export of horticultural crops. Under the leadership of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Executive Chairman Dr. Sheikh Md Bakhtiar, senior scientists of Wageningen Food and Bio-based Research, Wageningen University, Netherlands, Fatima Perera and René Usteuchel listened to the speeches of mango producers and exporters and assured cooperation on improved management to increase mango exports. Executive Chairman of BARC Dr. Sheikh Md Bakhtiar said, Netherlands is smaller than Bangladesh in terms of size, but it is far ahead of us in exports. Because their production and post harvest management is world class. He said that with the cooperation of Wageningen Food and Biobased Research, the world’s best Wageningen University, Netherlands, we can also increase mango exports. Already this year our mango export volume has exceeded 3 thousand tons which is 73 percent more than last year. Director of Agriculture Extension Department Tajul Islam Patwari, Additional Director Shamsul Wadud, Chief Scientific Officer of BARI Fruit Division Dr. Babul Chandra Sarkar, Chief Scientific Officer of Regional Horticulture Research Center Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman, Chief Scientific Officer of Rajshahi Fruit Research Dr. Shafiqul Islam, Chief Scientific Officer of Chapainawabganj Dr. Kamrul Islam, Deputy Director of DAE Dr. Palash Sarkar, DD of Horticulture Dr. Bimal Kumar Pramanik, Senior Scientific Officer Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain, officials of various departments, mango producers, processors and exporters were present in the event.
