Advocate injured in Sylhet in Dhaka for treatment, 1 detained

Former Central Chhatra League member and Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of Sylhet Judge Court, Advocate Prabal Chowdhury Pujan, who was injured in the Chhatra League attack in Sylhet, has gone to Dhaka for better treatment.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (August 16) evening, he mentioned – ‘I came to Dhaka at night because I suddenly felt more pain in my leg splints last night. At present I am consulting a specialist doctor at Square Hospital. Keep everyone in prayer.

Meanwhile, one of the defendants in the case of assault on Prabal Chowdhury was arrested and handed over to the police. Arrested Sourav (20) Chhatra League worker. He was arrested from Dariapara area of Sylhet city on Tuesday night. Later he was handed over to the police.

Earlier, a case was filed in the court on August 13 on the charge of attack on Prabal Chowdhury, including district Chhatra League president, general secretary, metropolitan general secretary and 55 people. 250 to 300 people were made unknown accused.

According to local and police sources, the police have not yet arrested any accused in the case of the attack on the former Chhatra League leader. However, on Tuesday night, the accused was arrested and handed over to the police. He was later shown arrested.

Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ali Mahmud said, local people arrested one accused and handed him over to the police. He will be sent to court. Efforts are on to arrest the other accused.

Last Thursday (August 10) around eight o’clock in the night, advocate Prabal Chowdhury Pujan’s house in Dariapara of Sylhet city was attacked and extensively vandalized by the activists of Sylhet District and Metropolitan Chhatra League. Pujan was injured in the attack. He even complained of being splintered.

The attack took place after advocate Pujan’s criticism of district and metropolitan Chhatra League committees and activists on social media Facebook for involvement in sugar smuggling.

Meanwhile, Central Chhatra League formed an inquiry committee last Friday (August 11) to look into the incident of attack on Prabal Chowdhury. A four-member committee has been directed to submit a report at the earliest
