Case against 250 activists of Sylhet District-Metropolitan Chhatra League

A case has been filed against about 250 activists of the Sylhet District Chhatra League on charges of extortion and firing.

Former member of Central Chhatra League and Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of Sylhet Judge Court Advocate Prabal Chowdhury Pujan filed this case on Sunday (August 13).

He filed this case in the Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate (1st) court, naming 55 leaders and activists of the Sylhet District and Metropolitan Chhatra League, accusing 200 people. The court took cognizance of the case and directed the SMP Kotwali police station to register it under the Speedy Trial Act.

The case was filed by naming 55 people including Sylhet District Chhatra League President Nazmul Islam, General Secretary Rahel Siraj and Metropolitan Chhatra League General Secretary Naeem Ahmad, 32 Sisic Ward Councilor Ruhel Ahmad, Sylhet Engineering College Chhatra League President Michabul Karim, Rafiq. Apart from this, two hundred unknown people of District and Metropolitan Chhatra League have been made accused.

It should be noted that on Thursday (August 10) around 8 o’clock in the night, advocate Prabal Chowdhury Pujan’s residence in Dandiyapara of Sylhet metropolis was attacked and extensively vandalized by the leaders and activists of Sylhet District and Metropolitan Chhatra League. Pujan was shot in this attack. He is even receiving medical treatment for splinters.

The attack took place after advocate Pujan’s criticism of district and metropolitan Chhatra League committees and activists on social media Facebook for involvement in sugar smuggling.
Meanwhile, the Central Chhatra League formed an inquiry committee last Friday (August 11) to look into the incident of attack on Prabal Chaudhur. A four-member committee has been directed to submit a report at the earliest.
