Advocate Shafiqul Islam and 5 people were jailed for fraud

The court has jailed 5 people including a lawyer named Md. Shafiqul Islam for forging the memorandum. Habiganj learned Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Judge Md. Saiful Alam Chowdhury passed the sentence on Wednesday.
According to the details of the case, on 08/05/2022, the wife of the deceased Abu Taher, a resident of Habiganj, filed a memorandum of acceptance of 82 lakh taka by Mosa Hushana Ara and asked for bail. Later, the said memorandum was examined by a palmistry expert to challenge the said memorandum by the complainant Mocha Hushneh Ara. In the examination, the said memorandum was given the opinion that the signature of deceased Md. Taher Ali Mortuza, the husband of the complainant, did not match. The original memorandum was created by accused Golam Kibria, Advocate Md. Shafiqul Islam, Notary Public and Advocate District Lawyers Association Sylhet, Ali Haider Chowdhury, Mamunur Rahman Chowdhury, Md. Shaheen Ahmad through mutual communication and forgery: Accused Golam Kibria used it in court as authentic. .
In view of the said complaint, Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Zakir Hossain, Habiganj issued the order dated 02/08/2022 to continue the regular case, hence GR 158/2022 (Habiganj) case was filed. When the case is ready for trial, the case is sent to the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Habiganj. As the memorandum was proved to be a forgery after the witness evidence, the accused Gholam Kibria, son of deceased Gholam Rabbani of Sylhet Shahparan police station, was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment, in addition to this, the accused Ali Haidar Chowdhury, son of deceased Haji Abdul Warish Mia, son of Sylhet lawyer, Advocate Md. Shafiqul Islam alias Tera Mia, son of deceased Abdul Latif Chowdhury of Tilaghar, Mamunur Rahman Chowdhury, son of Matiur Rahman of Uptown, and Md. Shaheen Ahmad, son of Abdur Rahman of Arambagh, were sentenced to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment and 06 months of unpaid labor without paying a fine of ten thousand taka.
While Golam Kibria was present during the verdict, advocate Safiqul Islam and others were absconding. Ghulam Kibria was sent to jail on a warrant.
