One person was killed and at least 15 injured, including the police, in a violent clash between two sides over the construction of a house in Sunamganj’s Shalla.

The incident took place on Tuesday (June 27) around 11 o’clock at Satpara market of Shalla Union No. 4 of Shalla Upazila. After receiving the news of the incident, Shalla police reached the spot and brought the situation under control by firing 9 rounds of blank bullets.

It is known that Nixon Mia of Kartikpur blocked Mujibur Rahman of the same village while building a house in the area adjacent to Satpara Bazar. Meanwhile, Nixon Mia claimed that the house is being built in a special place but his opponent Mujibur Rahman said that it is a place registered in his name. When tension arose between the two parties, the conflict broke out. A person named Habibur Rahman died after being stabbed in the chest in this clash. He is the uncle of Mujibur Rahman and former UP member of the union’s 1st ward.

Sub-inspector Alim Uddin of Shalla police station was injured during the clash. Later he was admitted to Shalla Health Complex but was sent to Sylhet for better treatment.

In this regard, Amir Hamza, the current UP member of Ward No. 1, said that there was a clash between Kartikpur’s Mujibur Rahman and Nixon Mia groups over the construction of a house in a place adjacent to Satpara Bazar. Habibur Rahman was killed in this clash. Many people on both sides including the police were injured.

Abdus Chattar, Chairman of No. 4 Shalla Union, said that a former member of Kartikpur named Habibur Rahman died in this clash. However, I have not received news of anyone else’s death.

Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shalla police station, said that a former member named Habibur Rahman was killed. SI Alim Uddin of our police station is injured and undergoing treatment. We fired 9 rounds of blanks to stop the clash.
