Two people were jailed in a separate case of dowry in Habiganj

The court sentenced two persons to imprisonment and fine in separate cases of dowry in Madhavpur and Nabiganj. District and Sessions Judge SM Nasim Reza, the judge of Habiganj’s Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-3, gave the verdict yesterday on Wednesday afternoon.

Special PP Md. Mustafa Mia handled the case for the state.

Peshkar Md. Fazlu Miah said that Bishnu Chandra Sarkar, son of Harendra Sarkar of Chatiyain village of Madhavpur upazila was married to Jaya Rani Sarkar, daughter of Shoklal Sahajir of Sinhagram village of Nasirnagar upazila. After the marriage, on March 6, 2016, he was beaten and injured and sent to Pitralaya for dowry. In this incident, Jaya Rani filed a case against Vishnu Chandra Sarkar as the plaintiff.

On the other hand, Musharraf (35), son of deceased Mankush Mia of the same village, married Pushpa Begum, daughter of deceased Ambar Ali of Sonapur village of Nabiganj upazila. On November 17, 2017, he was beaten and sent to Pitralaya for demanding dowry. In this incident, Pushpa filed a case against Mosharraf under Dowry Act. After the witness evidence, the learned court sentenced each of them to 3 years imprisonment for demanding dowry from the wife, 5 thousand rupees fine and 6 months unpaid imprisonment. However, the accused were absconding at the time of the verdict.

Peshkar also said that since they are on the run after bail, warrants will be sent against them to their respective police stations.
