Two people, including the driver of a battery-operated auto-rickshaw, were killed in a bus collision in Gaibandha’s Sundarganj. At least four others were injured. The accident happened in front of Sarbananda Union Council of the upazila on Friday (June 2) night.

The deceased are – Zakirul Islam (27), son of Dula Khalifa of Satgiri village of Bamondanga union of the upazila and autorickshaw driver Nazmul Islam (38), son of Mozammel Haque of Bakir Mor area of Gaibandha Sadar upazila.

Police and locals said that a bus named New Safa Palashbari Express left for Dhaka from Bamondanga port in the upazila at night. The bus rammed a battery-powered autorickshaw in front of Sarbananda Union Parishad’s old building. 6 passengers of the autorickshaw were injured. Later the locals rescued them and admitted them to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex and later to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Zakirul Islam died on the way to Rangpur Hospital around 12 midnight and Nazmul Islam died on Saturday afternoon while undergoing treatment.

The injured are – Zakir Hossain’s wife Lima Akhter (24), Nurul Islam son of Kachar Ali of Chaitantala village of Sonora Union, Nurul Islam’s wife Zooey Akhter (24) and son Rakib Babu (1).

MA Aziz, in-charge of Sundarganj’s Bamondanga Police Investigation Center, said that two people, including the autorickshaw driver, died in the collision of the bus. Buses and autorickshaws have been seized and kept at the investigation center.
