Govt trying to keep economy alive in recession: PM

Prime Minister and Leader of Parliament Sheikh Hasina has said that the government is making every effort to keep the country’s economy alive despite the economic recession caused by the Corona epidemic and the Ukraine-Russia war.

He gave this information in response to the question of Abdul Latif, a member of Chittagong-11 Constituency in the Parliament meeting on Wednesday. Speaker before this. When the meeting of the parliament started under the chairmanship of Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, the questions and answers scheduled for the prime minister were raised on the table.

The Prime Minister said that the recession, inflation and instability caused by the Corona epidemic and the Russia-Ukraine war in the global economy, and as a result, the government has been able to quickly bring the country’s economy back to the pre-Corona high growth path by dealing with the negative impact on the country’s economy. Despite the severe crisis, our growth in the financial year 2019-20 was 3.45 percent, one of the highest in the world at that time.

He said that as a result of the various steps taken by the government to strengthen the economy, the GDP growth in the financial year 2020-21 has increased by 6.94 percent. It further increased to 7.10 percent in FY 2021-22.

At this time, the Prime Minister highlighted the various steps taken by the government to keep the economy alive. Notable among these measures are government expenditure rationalization, social protection, subsidies in electricity, energy and agriculture sectors, export incentives, increase in remittance flows, monetary policy etc.

In reply to the question of Jatiya Party Member of Parliament Syed Abu Hossain Babla, the Prime Minister highlighted the various steps taken by the government to control the price of daily commodities and said that as a result of the government’s activities, it has been possible to prevent the increase in the price of daily necessities and the poor people are benefiting from it.

In response to Jatiya Party’s Rustum Ali Farazi’s question, the Prime Minister said that the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga section of the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project will be completed in September 2023 and the Jessore section will be opened in June 2024.
