A fine of 50 thousand taka in the operation of the mobile court in Kamalganj

An influential local group is doing business after constantly extracting sand from the hill slopes and Dhalai river of Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar. The government is losing huge revenue. Illegal extraction of sand is causing damage to the environment. Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) conducted a raid and fined Tk 50,000 in cash for extracting sand from Dhalai River in Kewalighat area of Adampur Union.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday (April 11) at 11 am.
According to local sources, the sand was sold after illegally extracting sand from different hill ranges including Dhalai River, Sunchhara, Kamarchhara, Japlachhara, Lauachhara by influential quarters. For a long time, many people have become banana trees by freely carrying out these trades. It is causing damage to roads, river dams and agricultural land. In addition, serious damage is being done to the environment.
On Tuesday, based on tip-off, the mobile court launched an operation at Kewalighat of Dhalai river in Adampur union. There are two vehicles including a sand laden truck and a tractor. Meanwhile, a person named Anwar Mia was fined 50 taka in cash.
Kamalganj Upazila Mobile Court Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Raich Al Rejuan confirmed the truth of the operation and said that a fine of Tk 50,000 was collected for illegal sand extraction. He said that the campaign against illegal sand extraction will continue.
