Case of forest department in case of death of 13 vultures in Moulvibazar

The Forest Department has filed a case with the Moulvibazar Model Police Station in connection with the death of 13 vultures in Ekatuna Union of Sadar Upazila of Moulvibazar. An 11-member delegation of officials and researchers from the Department of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation, Department of Livestock and IUCN visited the site to investigate the incident.

Moulvibazar District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Abdus Chamad said, the dead 10 vultures were brought to us in sacks by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) officials. I think they died 10-12 days ago. Everything is rotten. I have sent the vultures to the Sylhet laboratory for testing to find out the cause of death.
He also said that vultures can die by eating dead cows or dogs or foxes. Diclofenac injections are often used to treat cows and poisons are used in villages to kill dogs and foxes. After the death of one of these animals, the flesh of the vultures can also be poisoned.

Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department Shyamal Kumar Mitra said, in the case. Mentioning the names of Rokon and Majnu Mia and some unnamed persons have been accused. Two poison bottles have been recovered from the area where the carcass of the vulture was recovered from the forest department. The bottles have been submitted to two police stations as evidence along with the case. According to the sources of the Forest Department, the bodies of the critically endangered Bengal vultures have been sent to the lab for examination. After the lab test, we can understand what actually caused the vultures to die.

Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Harunur Rashid Chowdhury said that a case has been filed by the Forest Department on Thursday night regarding the killing of vultures.

It should be noted that on Thursday morning, the forest department officials recovered 10 dead vultures from Burikona Bill of Barakapan village near Colorbazar of Ekatuna Union of Sadar Upazila. Later in the afternoon, 3 more dead vultures were recovered from there.
