Consignment of Indian coal seized from Tahirpur border, 2 arrested

Police have arrested two professional smugglers along with a cargo of smuggled Indian coal stored in a residence in the border village of Tahirpur in Sunamganj.
The arrested are Abu Bakkar, son of Harish Mia of Jangalbari border village of Charagaon border of Uor Sreepur union of the upazila, Mahar Uddin, son of deceased Abdus Sattar of the same village.
They have been sent to the district jail through the court after filing a case on Thursday. Earlier on Wednesday after midnight, the police arrested them along with a cargo of Indian smuggled coal in a special operation in Jangalbari village on Charagaon border of the upazila.
On Thursday evening Sunamganj Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ehsan Shahr confirmed the information in the media cell of the district police.
According to the media cell, recently, several border villages including Kalagaon Maijhati, Jangalbari on the border of Charagaon upazila have been evading customs duty and have stored the consignment of sacks of coal brought from India through smuggling in several residential houses and huts around the residential houses.
On the basis of such secret news, police station SI Mohammad Shahadat Hossain and Tekerghat police outpost in charge. A vigilant police team headed by Shafiqul Islam launched a special operation after midnight on Wednesday.
After that, 121 sacks (4.84 metric tons) of Indian smuggled coal were seized from the residence of Abu Bakkar in Jangalbari border village of Charagaon border of the upazila. At that time, the police arrested Abu Bakkar and his accomplice Mahar Uddin, but some of his other accomplices managed to escape.
On Wednesday night, Abu Bakkar, Mahar Uddin were arrested and a case was filed at the police station showing their three associates as absconding accused.
The other absconding accused in the case are Aynal Haque alias Ainul, son of deceased Abdus Saktar of Jangalbari border village of Charagaon border of the upazila, Saiful Islam alias Saikul, son of deceased Tota Mia of the same village, Hazrat Ali, son of deceased Abdul Hekim.
Syed Iftekhar Hossain, OC of Tahirpur police station, said that the police operation will continue to prevent any kind of smuggling including drugs, coal, limestone, import prohibited bidis, cosmetics.
