The two people whose explosives were recovered are in jail

Two members of the house where explosives making equipment and weapons were recovered from Fechi Atghar village of Asharkandi Union of Jagannathpur Upazila of Sunamganj have been sent to jail.

The learned judge ordered to send them to jail if they were sent to court on Monday (January 9). They are – Akhlakur Rahman (70) and his son Amzadur Rahman (22). However, the main accused Afzal Hossain (25) has not been caught yet.

Jagannathpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter.

Earlier on Saturday (January 7) night, these two were arrested by the police from a house in Pir Mohalla under Airport Thana of Sylhet metropolis. According to the information provided by them, a large quantity of explosives-making equipment and weapons were recovered from their eight-housed village house on Sunday.

It is known that the Jagannathpur police station surrounded the house of Abdus Samir’s son Akhlakur Rahman in the Dighalbak village of Fechir Bazar in Asharkandi Union of Upazila from Sunday (January 8) morning. Later, Bomb Disposal Unit, Special Action Group, Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Anti-Terrorism Unit and Army’s expert team came and conducted the operation on the instructions of the higher authorities of the police.

A revolver, a laptop, 9 mobile phones, a large quantity of explosives making equipment and powder, two wakitki-like objects and various electronic devices including domestic weapons were recovered during the raid.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Media) Ripon Kumar Modak announced these rescues through a press release at 5:30 pm after the day-long operation. He also said that the legal measures after the rescue are in process.

According to the press release, on January 6, ASI Mohammad Noore Alam Siddique of Jagannathpur police station went to the house of accused Afzal Hossain (35) in non-FIR case No. 114/2022 and 376/2022 to issue summons issued by the court. he Then the policeman found various electronic devices, white powder and equipment in some rooms of the residence of the accused. After the matter was informed to the higher authorities of the police, the house was kept under surveillance and these explosive-making equipment and weapons were recovered by conducting a raid on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Jagannathpur police station sub-inspector Zia Uddin filed a case under the Explosives Act as the plaintiff. Afzal Hossain is the main accused and 5 names have been mentioned in it.
