A foreign pistol, a magazine and three rounds of live ammunition have been recovered from a mini pickup that tried to escape after crossing a temporary police checkpost in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The driver of the pickup has been arrested by Ramu police station in this incident. Police said that on Thursday (July 30) at around 11:30 am, on the instructions of Superintendent of Police A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman, a temporary checkpost was set up on the Naikhongchari-Ramu road in Kawarkhop Union under the supervision of the officer-in-charge (OC) of Ramu police station under the leadership of SI Nixon Chowdhury.
At that time, a mini pickup ignored the police’s stop signal and sped away. Later, the police chased the vehicle and arrested it from the Ramu-Marichya road in front of Ramu police station in Hazarikul area of Fatekharkul union. During the search, a foreign pistol, a magazine and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from under the footrest next to the brake under the steering wheel of the driver’s seat. At the same time, a mini pickup and a button mobile phone were seized. The arrested person is Md. Sohel (27).
He is a resident of the Moulvikata area of Kachchhpia Union of Ramu Upazila. Ramu Police Station said that an investigation is underway regarding the recovered weapons and ammunition. Preparations are underway to file a case under the Arms Act in this incident and the process of handing over the arrested person to the court is underway.
