On Wednesday, September 23, a series of day-long programs were organized by the Upazila Livestock Office and Veterinary Hospital, Phulbaria, Mymensingh, as part of livestock development and extension activities. Dr. Shamsad Jahan Shiraji, Divisional Director of the Divisional Livestock Office, Mymensingh, attended the day-long events as the chief guest, while Dr. Mohammad Wahedul Alam, District Livestock Officer of Mymensingh, was present as the special guest. Dr. Sharif Abdul Baset, Upazila Livestock Officer of Phulbaria, presided over the event.

The day’s activities began in the morning with a tree plantation program on the office premises. As part of the program, saplings of various fruit-bearing and medicinal trees were planted, and saplings were distributed among the farmers. An awareness-raising meeting with farmers was held in Nabiganj village of Kushmail Union. Discussions were held with farmers regarding biosecurity for layer farms, waste management, farm operations, and relevant laws and regulations; necessary advice was also provided.

Vaccination drives were conducted to prevent Anthrax (a fatal disease affecting livestock) and Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in goats. A training session on the “Animal Slaughter and Meat Quality Control Act, 2011” was held in the Upazila Livestock Office conference room, attended by meat processors. Emphasis was placed on the importance of producing safe and high-quality meat, ensuring hygienic animal slaughter and meat processing, and the necessity for relevant traders to obtain valid licenses.

Various sections of the Upazila Livestock Office were inspected. During the visit, the operations of the medical, vaccination, artificial insemination, and store sections were reviewed, and satisfaction was expressed regarding the field-level service activities.
