The mass uprising was successful due to collective sacrifice and struggle -MP Abu Wahab Akand

Mymensingh-4 (Sadar) constituency MP Md. Abu Wahab Akand Wahid said that the mass uprising of 2024 was a continuous outcome of the long-standing anti-fascist movement.There was active participation of people from all walks of life, including students, public, political activists, at various stages of the movement. He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the July Mass Uprising Day organized by the Mymensingh City Corporation on Tuesday (August 04) afternoon, to honor the families of July martyrs and July warriors.
He called for working with utmost importance on democratic values, tolerance and public welfare. The nation will remember with respect the sacrifices of the martyrs and injured in the July movement. He expressed deep condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the movement and remembered their contribution with gratitude.
Speaking as a special guest, Mymensingh-5 (Muktagachha) MP Mohammad Zakir Hossain said that the July movement is not just a two-month movement, but a continuation of the struggle of the last 16-17 years. People from different classes and professions have endured torture and hardship for a long time. The movement that was started by students through the anti-discrimination movement later became a movement of the people of the whole country.
The movement was successful with the participation of people from all classes and professions, including students, guardians, common people, women and government employees. He supported the demand for the preparation of a complete list of July fighters and martyrs, the completion of the list of the injured and the installation of nameplates in memory of the martyrs. He said that only those who have lost their children can understand the depth of that pain.
In his speech, Mymensingh City Corporation Administrator Md. Rukunozzaman Rokon said that the spirit of the July Movement does not belong to any individual or party alone, it is a movement of all the people of the country. Therefore, this spirit should not be divided, but should be maintained and nurtured to build a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
The real contribution of the July Movement should be evaluated without distorting its history. Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner SM Humayun Kabir Sarkar also spoke at the event. Also present at the event were Mymensingh City Corporation Chief Executive Officer (Acting) Sumana Al Majeed and members of the July Shaheed family.
