The importance of effective coordination between the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) and prosecution authorities has been emphasized to address deficiencies in drug case investigations, identify reasons for the early release or acquittal of accused persons, and ensure the punishment of offenders.

Speakers highlighted these issues at a discussion meeting and seminar titled “Addressing Deficiencies in Drug Cases and Coordinated Actions for Prosecution” held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 18, at the conference room of the Department of Narcotics Control in Chapainawabganj.

Mohammad Zahir Zaman (Johnny), an advocate at the Chapainawabganj Judge Court and Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) at the First Joint District and Sessions Judge Court, delivered the keynote address. He highlighted the importance of identifying legal shortcomings in the investigation and trial of drug cases, collecting necessary information and evidence, and preparing case documents properly. He also stressed the need for the relevant authorities to play a more responsible role in addressing weaknesses in cases and bringing offenders to justice.

The seminar was chaired by Chowdhury Imrul Hasan, Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control in Chapainawabganj. He emphasized the need for greater coordination between the officials concerned and prosecution authorities to ensure proper investigation and trial of cases filed alongside anti-narcotics operations.

He further noted that proper investigation, compliance with legal provisions, preservation of necessary evidence and exhibits, and their appropriate presentation before the court are crucial in drug cases. Legal and technical deficiencies in investigations can obstruct the judicial process. Therefore, all relevant parties must work together to identify and address weaknesses in cases and expedite judicial proceedings.

Among others present at the seminar were Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Inspector of the Department of Narcotics Control and officer in charge of Circle A, also serving as acting officer in charge of Circle B; Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman, Sub-Inspector of Circle A; Mamunur Rashid, Sub-Inspector; other officials of the department; and individuals involved in the judicial process.

Organized by the District Office of the Department of Narcotics Control in Chapainawabganj, the seminar underscored the importance of continued coordinated efforts among the relevant departments to ensure effective investigations into drug cases, address procedural deficiencies, and secure the punishment of offenders.
