The Bangladesh Journalists Protect Committee (BJPC), formed with funding from the European Union and in collaboration with Free Press Unlimited and Article 19, has distributed safety equipment to about 60 journalists in Khulna division. The program was held on Saturday, August 1st, at the Aranya Eco Garden in Khulna from 9 am to 6 pm. Bulletproof jackets, safety helmets, earmuffs and various types of safety equipment were handed over to the selected permanent members of the organization during the program. Journalists from 10 districts of Khulna division as well as Pabna, Magura, Gaibandha and other districts of the country participated in the program.
Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of such initiatives to ensure a safe working environment for journalists. They expressed gratitude to Free Press Unlimited, the European Union, and Article 19 for their cooperation, and expressed hope that such activities will continue in the future to protect and enhance the capacity of journalists.The organization had previously distributed laptops to 20 female journalists. The event was chaired by the President of Bangladesh Journalists Protect Committee and Kaler Kantho reporter Kaushik De and moderated by the organization’s General Secretary and Global Television’s Khulna Divisional Head Anisur Rahman Kabir. Khulna Press Club President Mustafa Sarwar, General Secretary Md. Tariqul Islam, Khulna Newspaper Council General Secretary and Editor of Daily Khulna Region Mizanur Rahman Milton, Khulna Divisional Head of Maasranga Television Abu Hena Mustafa Zaman, Khulna Correspondent of Dhaka Tribune Md. Hedayet Hossain Molla, Khulna Bureau Chief of Himalaya, Executive Editor of Ushar Alo Patrika Md. Rabiul Islam Manju and CMKS Executive Member Abul Hossain spoke at the event.
