Rafiqul Islam Khan is a potential candidate for the post of chairman in the Medni Union Parishad elections in Netrakona

Former chairman Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan has been active in the field in preparation for the upcoming election of Medni Union Parishad in Netrakona Sadar Upazila. Using his long-standing experience in political and social activities, he is engaging in public relations, exchanging views and greetings with locals in different areas of the union. Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan served as the chairman of Medni Union Parishad from 1997 to 2001.

His supporters claim that during his tenure as chairman, he played a role in the development of the union’s infrastructure, solving local problems and public service activities. Currently, he is serving as the vice-president of the district farmers’ party, an honorary member of the Sadar Upazila BNP and an honorary member of the district bus transport owners’ association. Due to his long-standing involvement in the political and social arena, he has a familiarity and support group in the union.

Local sources say that ahead of the upcoming Union Parishad elections, Rafiqul Islam Khan is regularly visiting different wards to exchange views with voters. If elected, he is expressing his determination to work for establishing good governance, ensuring transparency, developing rural infrastructure, and working for agriculture and youth development. In this regard, Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan said, “I have served as a servant of the people in the past. If the people elect me again, I will work sincerely for the overall development, accountability and welfare of the union.”

Meanwhile, according to local political circles, an election atmosphere has already started to be created in Medni Union centered around the chairman post. As potential candidates are active in the field, interest among voters is also increasing around the election. However, there has been no official announcement from the Election Commission yet regarding when the elections will be held.
