Patient chain stolen from Jessore 250-bed General Hospital

A one-day trial court has sentenced a woman named Shahana Begum (38) to 15 months rigorous imprisonment for attempting to steal a gold chain from a patient’s neck at the 250-bed Jessore General Hospital.
At the same time, he was fined 1,000 taka, failing which he was sentenced to another 1 month in prison. Jessore Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Asadul Islam announced the verdict on Tuesday (September 8). Convicted Shahana Begum is the wife of Mahmud Ali of Daulatpur village of Nasirnagar police station in Brahmanbaria district.
According to the case, Shahanara Begum (50) was standing in line at the outpatient department of the 250-bed Jessore General Hospital at around 11:10 am on Monday, September 7.
At that time, Shahana Begum tried to steal the gold chain around his neck in the crowd. Upon realizing the matter, the people around arrested him and handed him over to the hospital’s police box. Later, the police went to the scene and took Shahana into custody.
During interrogation, he admitted the truth of the incident. In this incident, Kotwali Model Police Station SI Simon Hawlader filed a complaint against Shahana and handed her over to the one-day trial court along with a charge sheet.
During the hearing of the charges against Shahana, who was detained on Monday, the judge who did not perform the test ordered her to be sent to prison. Today (September 8), the testimony of the accused Shahana was taken in her presence.
After taking testimony, the judge found the charges against the accused to be true and sentenced him to one year and three months in prison, with a fine of Tk 1,000 to be paid in default, followed by another month in prison. “The convicted Shahana is detained in prison.”
