Police have seized 41 maunds, 35 kg, 350 grams of ganja in an anti-drug operation in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria in the last four months. 82 people have been arrested in 85 drug cases filed during this period. According to Kasba police station sources, 11 ganja plants, 9,415 pieces of yaba, 100 bottles of foreign liquor, 65 liters of domestic liquor and 109 bottles of foreign beer have been seized during the same period. Legal action has been taken against those involved in the recovered narcotics.

Kasba Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Mohammad Rashed told Daily Morning Glory, “There is no compromise with drugs. The drive against drug dealers will continue. Detective surveillance has also been strengthened in the border areas. No lobbying will be accepted in drug cases.” Meanwhile, after being elected in the 13th National Parliament election, Kasba-Akhaura constituency MP Mushfiqur Rahman submitted a DO letter to the concerned DIG, urging him to take necessary measures to stop the entry of drugs from India through the border route.

A copy of it has also been sent to the Home Ministry, according to relevant sources. Abu Hanif Khandaker, the MP’s personal assistant, said that a copy of the DO letter has been provided to local journalists including the Kasba Upazila Press Club in order to increase public awareness against drugs, so that awareness campaigning through the media can be further strengthened.

According to local activists, efforts to make Kasba drug-free will be strengthened if continuous operations by law enforcement agencies, initiatives by public representatives, and public awareness work together to prevent drug trafficking in the border areas.
