Police Inspector Monirul Islam Bhuiyan has been nominated for the PPM (Gallantry) medal in recognition of his bravery while serving at Raozan Police Station in Chattogram and Ramu Police Station in Cox’s Bazar. His nomination stems from his actions in arresting terrorists and murder suspects, as well as recovering domestic and foreign weapons and ammunition. Between January 2025 and February 1, 2026, while stationed at Raozan and Ramu police stations, Monirul Islam Bhuiyan led several high-risk operations.

During these operations, alongside the arrest of terrorists and murder suspects, a significant quantity of domestic and foreign weapons and ammunition was recovered. While serving at Raozan Police Station, he arrested Mamun—a notorious terrorist identified as the prime suspect in the murder of Jahangir, a dried-fish trader who was shot dead in public view in the Noapara area during Friday prayers. Mamun was found in possession of a foreign revolver loaded with ammunition at the time of his arrest.

Monirul Islam Bhuiyan risked his life to participate in that perilous operation. Additionally, he led operations that resulted in the arrest of several associates of Chattogram’s top terrorist, Raihan, along with the seizure of foreign weapons and ammunition. During his tenure, 12 foreign weapons and approximately 500 rounds of various types of foreign ammunition were recovered. Around 30 arms-related cases were filed following the recovery of approximately 100 weapons across various operations.

Several terrorists and murder suspects were also arrested during his time in Raozan. Through these operations, he played a pivotal role in maintaining law and order and fostering public trust in the police force. While serving at Ramu Police Station in Cox’s Bazar, Monirul Islam Bhuiyan led operations that resulted in the recovery of 20 to 25 illegal domestic and foreign weapons, as well as the arrest of notorious bandits and kidnappers. Monirul Islam Bhuiyan also received the IGP Badge in 2024 in recognition of his contributions to police service. This year, a total of 92 police personnel have been selected for medals across various categories in recognition of their bravery and performance in maintaining law and order, arresting terrorists, and discharging their duties.

Among them, 18 individuals have been nominated for the PPM (Bravery) medal for demonstrating courage while facing life-threatening risks in the line of duty. Monirul Islam Bhuiyan, the former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramu Police Station, ranks sixth on this list. Regarding his nomination for the PPM (Bravery) medal, Monirul Islam Bhuiyan stated that this recognition does not belong to him alone. His colleagues stood by him and shared the risks while performing their duties. It would not have been possible to successfully carry out these operations without their cooperation.

The primary responsibility of the police is to ensure the safety of the people. He expressed his desire to continue working with the utmost sincerity in maintaining law and order and serving the public in the future. He further added that during operations, one must prioritize the safety of the general public alongside one’s own safety. This nomination, serving as recognition of his service, will inspire him to perform his duties with even greater responsibility.
