Demands have also been raised to verify whether the relevant authorities have inspected the factory’s location, production activities, and its impact on the local environment and public health.

Locals state that whether they demand the factory’s closure depends on the outcome of the authorities’ investigation and the legal standing of the facility. Nevertheless, effective measures are needed to ensure that the environment conducive to normal residential living is not disrupted.

Residents urge officials from the administration, the Department of Environment, and the Health Department to conduct an on-site inspection of the Akua factory and verify its permits and environmental clearances. They also call for an assessment of the reported suffering caused by the production odor and for appropriate action to be taken.

However, the factory owner, Shahin Mia, stated, “It is not just my factory; many such factories have sprung up in residential areas.” “I am operating the factory in compliance with environmental standards,” he added.
