Inauguration of Divisional Tree Fair in Rajshahi

The 15-day long Divisional Tree Fair-2026 has started in Rajshahi.
On Saturday (July 25), the event organized by the Rajshahi District Administration and the Social Forest Department, Rajshahi, was attended as the chief guest by the Land Minister of the Land Ministry, Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, at the Nazrul Village premises adjacent to the Rajshahi Central Botanical Garden and Zoo in the city. The Divisional Tree Fair was officially inaugurated with a colorful rally and balloon festoons. There are 52 stalls at the fair. The fair will start from 9 am every day and will continue till 9 pm.
In his speech as the chief guest, the Land Minister said that Rajshahi has success in various fields in tree plantation and healthcare. We have to maintain that success. To make Rajshahi greener, the City Corporation as well as all government and private institutions should take initiatives simultaneously to plant trees on a large scale. To achieve planned urbanization, trees should be planted on a large scale. It is not enough to just plant trees, they should be taken care of.
The program was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam. The program was attended as special guests by Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, DIG, Rajshahi Range Ashiq Sayeed, Superintendent of Police Naimul Hasan, Police Commissioner (RMP) Md. Fayezul Kabir, District Council Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Adv. Ershad Ali Isha, Additional Divisional Commissioner Habibur Rahman.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said, In order to implement the election promise of the current government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, “25 core tree plantations in 5 years”, a 2 lakh 50 thousand tree plantation program has been undertaken by Rajshahi City Corporation in the next one year.
Of this, the planting of nearly one lakh saplings has started in the first phase. This program is ongoing. He further said that I am working to implement the responsibility that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has given me for the development of Rajshahi metropolis.
We need the cooperation of everyone, including the city residents, to take forward all development works including strengthening the city’s cleanliness program, mosquito control, clay removal, tree plantation, and greening. Only then will Rajshahi develop into a more beautiful, green, and healthy city. Divisional Forest Officer Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam delivered a welcome speech at the event. Forest Conservator Md. Subedar Islam also spoke. Nursery Owners Association Rajshahi Metropolitan Publicity Secretary Aynal Haque. Officials of various government and private organizations, representatives of environmental organizations and well-wishers were present.
The speakers said that there is no alternative to massive tree plantation to protect the balance of the environment, combat the adverse effects of climate change and build a green and livable Bangladesh for the next generation. Therefore, they called on everyone to plant at least one tree and take proper care of it. Earlier, a colorful rally started from the Rajshahi Central Botanical Garden and Zoo Gate and ended at Nazrul Village. Government officials, public representatives, students, scout members, nursery owners and environmentalists participated in the program.
