Working journalists held a human chain demanding the withdrawal of a case filed under the Cyber Security Act against two journalists from Lalmonirhat. The case was initiated following reports published on the irregularities and corruption within the Teesta Sarbik Gram Unnayan Samabay Samiti (Teesta Comprehensive Village Development Cooperative Society).

Braving adverse weather conditions, speakers at the nearly two-hour-long event affirmed their resolve that journalists would continue to wield their pens to reveal the truth. The human chain took place on Sunday at 11:00 AM in front of the Lalmonirhat Superintendent of Police’s office. Journalists working for various media outlets in the district participated in the event, upholding the slogan: “The pen will keep writing to reveal the truth.”

Speakers noted that the case under the Cyber Security Act was filed against the two journalists after they published reports regarding the irregularities and corruption at the Teesta Sarbik Gram Unnayan Samabay Samiti Limited. They alleged that the case was filed solely to harass the journalists and stifle the publication of news. The speakers further stated, “Journalists cannot be silenced by filing lawsuits against them for reporting on irregularities and corruption. We demand the withdrawal of this case.”

Participants in the human chain demanded the immediate withdrawal of the case. Simultaneously, they called for an end to the harassment of journalists over their reporting and urged for the assurance of an environment where the media can operate freely. The program continued for nearly two hours despite the inclement weather.
