High tension between two groups in Sariakandi over sand sales; sand-laden tractor seized

Intense tension arose between two groups on Monday (September 21) in the Char-Godagari area of Narchi Union, Sariakandi (Bogura), over the sale of sand that had been extracted from the banks of the Bangali River during the tenure of the previous government. Locals allege that the dispute stemmed from the sale of this previously extracted sand. At one point, villagers blocked the road and erected bamboo barricades to obstruct the movement of vehicles.
A verbal altercation between the two groups escalated into a chase and counter-chase. Panic spread across the area due to the incident. Fearing that the situation might escalate further, local residents have urged the administration to intervene promptly. Meanwhile, police sources confirmed that a tractor loaded with sand has been seized from the extraction site.
Questions have also arisen among locals regarding the legality of the sand extraction and sale, as well as the roles of those involved. Residents stated that unless a permanent solution is found for the dispute over the riverbank sand, more serious untoward incidents could occur in the future. They have demanded that the Upazila administration investigate the matter to uncover the facts and take necessary legal action.
