A school is far more than just a brick-and-mortar structure. It is a sanctuary of countless dreams, cherished childhood and teenage memories, loving guidance, selfless sacrifices, and heartfelt emotions. Haji Majid Ulla Public High School is one such emotional shelter for many.
It is a place where we first learned to dream, where a single phrase from a teacher became a lifelong beacon, and where we stood in the schoolyard sowing the seeds of our future. Though time has carried us far from its campus, the memories remain forever vivid. Woven into the history of this institution are the stories of endless student aspirations and achievements—stories whose primary architects are its dedicated teachers and staff.
Over the years, many educators and staff members have stepped down after completing their long and devoted service. Some nurtured entire generations; some taught discipline through affection and firmness; while others worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the daily operations running smoothly. Though their individual journeys differed, their mission was singular: to enlighten students and elevate the standard of education.
Since the time of the respected founding Headmaster, late Parimal Kanti Talukdar, 28 teachers and staff members have retired or departed from the school. Among them, 17 individuals—including former Headmasters Satyabrata Das and Md. Fayzunnur, Assistant Headmaster Binoy Bhushan Talukdar, founding Assistant Teacher Abdul Majid, Assistant Teachers Hemendra Kumar Das, Jiban Krishna Bhattacharya, Pabitra Kumar Talukdar, Subhash Chandra Talukdar, Nazrul Haque, Mohit Ranjan Das, Nishi Kanta Das, Apu Raihan, Office Assistants Ranada Chakraborty and Samiran Das, Office Support Staff Karuna Sindhu Das and Ashutosh Das, and Night Watchman Nikhil Ranjan Das—could not be given a formal farewell tribute earlier due to various constraints.
Today, on the final working day of the Acting Headmaster, Md. Saiful Islam—a true builder of enlightened lives—a total of 18 dedicated individuals, including him, are being officially honored. The most touching aspect of this event is that it goes beyond mere organizational protocol; it is a profound expression of love and gratitude emerging directly from the hearts of the students.
This occasion holds a deeply resonant meaning not only for current students but also for the alumni. Many of those being recognized today were the very mentors who shaped our youth through affection, discipline, and wise counsel. To a teacher, a batch of students may simply represent an academic year, but to a student, that teacher remains an inseparable part of their life story.
As time passed, students grew, established their careers, and scattered across the globe. Yet, in their memories, the school, the classrooms, and the beloved teachers remain as luminous as ever. A teacher’s true legacy cannot be measured by promotions, tenure, or formal retirement ceremonies. It lives on within the lives of their students. When an alumnus finds courage in a teacher’s advice during tough times, brings their child back to show them their former mentor, or bows their head in respect decades later—that is where a teacher’s ultimate achievement lies.
The greatest reward for the former educators of Haji Majid Ulla Public High School is the generation they raised, now contributing to society across diverse fields as teachers, government officials, business owners, journalists, and social development workers. Every success story bears the quiet contribution of these revered teachers.
The contributions of the school staff are equally invaluable. While teachers shape minds, staff members ensure the institution functions smoothly and seamlessly every day. Though their effort often goes unnoticed, their silent labor maintains the discipline, administrative work, and daily management of the school. An educational institution attains completeness through the combined efforts of both teachers and staff.
Honoring 17 former teachers and staff together on one stage is a deeply significant initiative. It proves that every individual’s contribution matters in the history of an institution. Including the current Acting Headmaster, Md. Saiful Islam, in this ceremony adds special meaning. A headmaster’s role extends beyond administrative duties; it involves fostering a healthy learning environment, nurturing teacher-student relationships, maintaining discipline, and coordinating with parents. His dedicated efforts to maintain academic standards make this recognition well-deserved, creating a beautiful bridge between the past and the present.
Life follows a curious path—people come together for a purpose, walk side by side for a while, and then part ways as time demands. Yet, certain bonds remain unbreakable, especially the selfless connection between a teacher and a student. After retirement, a teacher may no longer mark attendance registers or deliver classroom lectures, but their name lives on in the hearts of their students. When alumni look back at their successes, they realize who held their hands at the beginning, guiding their early steps and planting the seeds of their dreams. Thus, this farewell is not a goodbye; it is a moment of reflection—a reminder of where we came from, who guided us, and how deeply indebted we are to the architects of our lives.
No honor, crest, sash, or certificate can ever fully repay a lifetime of service. Yet, recognition matters because it serves as a collective acknowledgment: “We saw your hard work, and we remember your contributions.” This event is a generation’s way of turning back to honor its roots. In today’s fast-paced world, remembering those who laid the foundation is crucial, for a generation that forgets its roots risks losing its footing.
While today’s ceremony will feature flowers, crests, and warm wishes, the most enduring element will be the invaluable memories. To those who once handed us books, taught us how to write, corrected us when we stumbled, encouraged us when we succeeded, and taught us how to dream—today, we hand back our heartfelt flowers of gratitude.
Your professional chapters may have come to a close,
But the story of your contribution endures.
In the hearts of the generation you built,
Your names will remain etched with love and respect forever.
Our deepest respect and affection go out to the 17 former teachers and staff members of Haji Majid Ulla Public High School, as well as the current Acting Headmaster. May the Almighty bless you all.
