Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (Ansar) detained a woman named Sharmin Akter (34) at the capital’s Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital. She was accused of wearing a doctor’s apron, interacting with patients, and attempting to lure them to a private clinic using various inducements. She was subsequently handed over to the police for necessary legal action. Acting on a tip-off, Ansar members responsible for hospital security became aware of the situation around 10:40 AM on Wednesday.

Upon receiving the information, a three-member Ansar team led by PC Md. Sadek Hossain Bachchu conducted a drive on the hospital’s third floor. During the operation, Ansar members spotted Sharmin Akter in Ward No. 313, wearing a doctor’s apron. When questioned about her identity and her role as a physician at the hospital, she failed to produce any proof. Later, when interrogated by hospital authorities, she initially claimed to be a doctor. At one point, she admitted that she was employed at a private hospital.

Preliminary reports indicate that the woman had been roaming various parts of the hospital wearing a doctor’s apron. She was interacting with patients seeking medical care and attempting to persuade them to visit a private clinic outside the hospital by offering various inducements. Upon learning of this, Ansar members stepped up surveillance, detained her, and informed the hospital authorities.

The Ansar members who participated in the operation were PC Md. Sadek Hossain Bachchu, APC Md. Shafiqul Islam, and Ansar member Md. Akidul Islam. Subsequently, the woman was handed over to the police by the hospital authorities for necessary legal action. Ansar members regularly perform duties to ensure the safety of patients and their relatives visiting the hospital—a vital public service institution.

At the same time, they remain vigilant in preventing activities such as touting, fraud, or misleading patients into seeking treatment elsewhere. Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party will continue their responsible efforts to maintain a safe environment for patients and their relatives by promptly detecting suspicious activities within the hospital premises and taking necessary measures.
