The driver of one truck was killed and the driver and helper of the other truck were injured in a head-on collision between two trucks at Palerghat on the Netrakona-Mymensingh highway. The tragic accident took place at around 6:15 am on Thursday (July 16) at Isabpur Palerghat in Gohalakanda union of Purbadhala upazila.

According to local residents and Shyamganj Highway Police Station, a Mymensingh-bound truck and another Netrakona-bound truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on in the Palerghat area on Thursday morning. The front parts of the two trucks were completely twisted in the collision.

Hearing the loud noise, local people in the vicinity quickly rushed to the spot. The driver of one of the trucks involved in the accident got stuck in the steering wheel and died on the spot. Locals rescued the injured driver and helper of the other truck and immediately sent them to the 250-bed Netrokona Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Upon receiving the information, a team from Shyamganj Highway Police Station and Purbadhola Fire Service quickly reached the spot. After some effort, the fire service personnel cut through the twisted small truck and recovered the body of the deceased driver who was trapped inside. After removing the two accident-hit trucks from the road, traffic is currently normal on the Netrokona-Mymensingh highway. Shyamganj Highway Police Station said that the name and identity of the deceased truck driver has not yet been confirmed. Police are working to identify him.

When contacted, Purbadhola Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the incident and said that the body of the deceased has been recovered and sent to the Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The two trucks involved in the accident have been taken into police custody. Further legal action is under process.
