A college student named Jobayer Bhuiyan (22) was killed in an attack by rivals in Gopalganj. The tragic incident occurred around 10:30 AM on Thursday (September 24) in Pukhuria village under Gopalganj Sadar Upazila. The deceased, Jobayer Bhuiyan, was the son of Ramzan Bhuiyan from Ghoradair village in Sadar Upazila. He was a second-year Bachelor’s (Honours) student in the Department of Accounting at Lalmia City College.

According to the victim’s uncle, Md. Hamim Bhuiyan, and police sources, Jobayer was returning home from the Pukhuria area after conducting private tutoring sessions. On the way, a group of people led by Sohel—son of Shahid Molla—launched a surprise attack on him using sticks and clubs. He sustained severe injuries in the attack.

Locals subsequently rescued him and admitted him to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital. While undergoing treatment there, he was declared dead by doctors around 2:00 PM on Thursday (September 24). A local youth, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that Jobayer and Sohel Molla had been involved in a dispute and verbal altercations over a matter concerning a woman for some time.

It is suspected that this incident may have stemmed from that ongoing conflict. Md. Aminul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, stated, “Upon receiving the news, I personally visited the scene with a police force.” “Various accounts regarding the motive behind the attack are emerging. The body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy.” “Efforts to arrest the accused are underway, and additional police have been deployed to the area to prevent any untoward situation.”
