A case has been filed at the Kotwali Model Police Station against unidentified individuals in connection with an arson attack on the ‘July Martyrs’ Memorial’ in the Bakultala area of Jashore city. The case was initiated on November 4 by Abdul Halim—a recognized ‘July fighter’ (participant in the July 2024 uprising) and son of the late Rajali Biswas from Bishwaspara in Altapol village, Keshabpur. As of now, the police have not been able to identify or arrest any suspects.

According to the case statement, the incident occurred on November 2 at approximately 4:35 AM. The ‘July Martyrs’ Memorial,’ located at a three-way intersection near the Garib Shah Shrine in Ward 5 of Jashore city, was set on fire. Three individuals arrived at the scene on a motorcycle. Two of them dismounted, poured a flammable substance from a container onto the middle section of the memorial, and set it ablaze. They then fled the scene quickly on the motorcycle.

The fire left black scorch marks on the central part of the memorial. Abdul Halim, a resident of Keshabpur and a registered ‘July fighter,’ learned of the incident through social media and electronic media. He visited the site and, with the help of others, reviewed footage from nearby CCTV cameras. The case statement notes that the footage shows three individuals arriving on a motorcycle, with two of them getting off to carry out the arson.

The complaint alleges that this act was a deliberate act of sabotage, intended to destroy the spirit of the July 2024 uprising and incite panic among the public. The complainant has demanded that not only those directly involved in the arson but also any accomplices, enablers, and financiers be brought to justice.
