Body of missing student recovered while swimming in Brahmaputra River

The fire service has recovered the body of a student named Md. Mokramin Hasan Rafi (25) a day after he went missing while bathing with friends in the Brahmaputra River in Gouripur, Mymensingh. His body was recovered from the Boyra Ghat area of ​​the Brahmaputra River adjacent to Boyra Bazar of the upazila at around 8:30 am on Thursday (June 4). The deceased Md. Mokramin Hasan Rafi is the son of Abul Hossain of Boyra area of ​​the upazila. He was a third-year student of the Mymensingh Polytechnic Institute.

Police and family said that Rafi went to bathe in the Brahmaputra River with three friends around 3 pm on Wednesday. At one point, they swam into the deep water of the river. Later, the two friends managed to swim to the shore, but Rafi was swept away by the current.

After receiving the information, the fire service diving team reached the spot and conducted a rescue operation till evening. However, no trace of him was found that day. When the operation resumed the next morning, Thursday, Rafi’s body was recovered from the Boyra Ghat area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gouripur Police Station Md. Habibur Rahman said that no complaint has been filed by the deceased’s family in this incident. However, an accidental death (UD) case is under process at the police station.
