The body of Bangladeshi expatriate worker Md. Shahed Ahmed, who was killed in a missile attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, has been brought back to Bangladesh.
The body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday morning (October 23), where it was received by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
At the time of the handover, Shahed’s family received Tk 85,000 in immediate financial assistance through the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. The amount includes Tk 35,000 for funeral arrangements and travel expenses and Tk 50,000 as a special grant.
Meanwhile, Shahed’s employer, Sa’ad Al-Essa Contracting Company, has deposited SAR 27,395.62—equivalent to approximately Tk 900,000 in Bangladeshi currency—into the bank account of the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh. The amount covers his outstanding salary, allowances and service benefits.
The money will soon be formally handed over to Shahed’s family through the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board.
In addition, Shahed’s family may receive another Tk 300,000 if he had a BMET (Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training) card or valid identification documents. If he was covered by insurance, his family may also be eligible for financial benefits of up to Tk 1 million.
The relevant authorities are expected to facilitate the disbursement of the outstanding employment benefits and any additional financial assistance for Shahed’s family, subject to the applicable eligibility requirements.
