An awareness rally and street meeting were held in Phulchhari, Gaibandha, demanding an end to drug consumption and trafficking syndicates and calling for a drug-free society. The event took place around 11:00 AM on Thursday (September 17), organized by conscious local residents under the slogan: “Let us all take a pledge to build a drug-free society.” A rally started from the Upazila Parishad premises. It later paraded through the area’s main roads and concluded at the Bottola intersection. A street meeting was held at that location. People from various walks of life, public representatives, and youths attended the program.

Moderated by Jahid Hasan Jibon, Member Secretary of the Phulchhari Upazila unit of the Jatiya Nagorik Party, the meeting was addressed by Phulchhari Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mostafizur Rahman; Phulchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Esrakul Islam; Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Principal Maulana Sirajul Islam; Assistant Secretary Maulana Abul Khair; Principal of Burail Model School and College Ibrahim Akand Selim; Udakhali Union Parishad Panel Chairman Kabil Uddin; President of Manikkor High School Managing Committee Safat Alamin; Upazila Merchants’ Association General Secretary Abdus Sattar; local BNP leader Shamsuzzoha Ludu; Udakhali Union Jubo Jamaat President Golam Mostafa; and student leader Khorshed Alam, among other local dignitaries.

Speakers at the meeting stated that the spread of drugs is having a negative impact on the youth. They emphasized the need to build social resistance alongside taking legal action against those involved in drug consumption and trafficking. They called upon families, society, and the administration to work in a coordinated manner to protect the younger generation from the devastating effects of drugs. The speakers highlighted the importance of raising public awareness and fostering social unity, alongside administrative initiatives, to make Phulchhari drug-free. Participants expressed their firm resolve to build a united resistance against drugs.
