Accused sentenced to life imprisonment in rape case involving police member’s wife

A court has sentenced the accused, Parvez (alias Abul Kalam), to life imprisonment in a high-profile case involving the rape of a police member’s wife after breaking into their home to commit theft in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar. Additionally, he has been fined Tk 2 lakh; failure to pay the fine will result in an additional 10 years of imprisonment.
Judge Abu Hanif of the Cox’s Bazar Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 delivered the verdict on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 9, 2026. State Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Iftekhar Mahmud confirmed the information. According to the case details, the incident occurred on the night of July 15, 2025, at a rented house in Ward No. 3 of Chakaria Municipality, while the police officer—stationed at Chakaria Police Station—was on duty.
The charges state that the accused, Parvez (alias Abul Kalam), entered the house late at night with the intent to commit theft. Finding the woman alone, he looted valuables, forcibly raped the police member’s wife, and fled after threatening her. Following the incident, a case was filed at Chakaria Police Station. Police subsequently arrested Parvez (alias Abul Kalam) in connection with the theft, and the investigation confirmed his direct involvement in the rape.
The court delivered the verdict after a lengthy trial process, having reviewed the testimonies and evidence of 10 witnesses. The plaintiff’s side has expressed satisfaction with the court’s verdict. Local residents have also expressed satisfaction following this landmark verdict.
