Police have detained Jahid Munshi, an absconding accused and Joint Member Secretary of the Kaliganj Upazila unit of the Jatiya Nagarik Party (NCP), in connection with a case involving the repeated rape of a college student. The accused had allegedly raped the victim after luring her with promises of marriage and threatening to circulate her private photos and videos on social media.

According to police sources, Jahid Munshi (26)—son of Zakir Mistri from Mansurpur village under the municipality—had developed a romantic relationship with a second-year Higher Secondary student of Government Kaliganj Sramik College. Jahid Munshi later took the student to a guest house under the pretext of marriage, raped her, and recorded private photos and videos on his mobile phone.

Subsequently, by threatening to make these private images and videos viral on social media, he raped her multiple times at various hotels and at an abandoned railway quarter near the college. Following this incident, the victim’s elder sister filed a case (Case No. 12(9)26) at Kaliganj Police Station on September 14. The accused NCP leader, Jahid Munshi, had been in hiding since the case was filed.

On Tuesday night (September 22), police from Kaliganj Station conducted a raid in the Majhukhan area of Pubail and detained Jahid Munshi. Md. Zakir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station, stated that the accused had been absconding since the case was registered. After being detained during the raid in Pubail’s Majhukhan area on Tuesday night, he was sent to the Gazipur court on Wednesday afternoon.
